Morrows, a dapper mens fashion store in Putney, London

Morrows, the dapper mens fashion store from Putney is run by Philip Morrows and his father Graham. They are a men’s fashion retailer predominantly specialising in quirky, trendy and quality British made mens socks.

The majority of their socks are knitted by a 5th generation family firm which are still based in Leicestershire, the historic capital of the hosiery industry in England. They provide the wearer with an essentially seamless sock and is the hallmark of exceptionally fine hosiery.

“Today we have over 250 variations of socks in our Putney shop which are knitted at three family run factories in LEICESTERSHIRE, CARMARTHENSHIRE and HAWICK in the Scottish borders” says Philip.

They have other products also and have great pride in the fact that their SOCKS, GARTERS, HATS, BRACES, SCARVES, CASHMERE ACCESSORIES, BLANKETS, LEATHER BELTS and UMBRELLAS are made in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“For over 75 years my Grandfather and Great Grandfather were committed to providing high quality British products. We are proud to support these family run British businesses and in supporting us you are also supporting them” adds Philip.

Their story:

Morrow’s was Philip’s Great grandfathers business originally which he closed 17 years ago with Philip’s dad being the only surviving shareholder of the original business.

In June 2011 Morrows was incorporated and Philip began doing trade shows with nothing but his socks to sell, a hessian cloth and trestle table. “My grandma’s Citroen Saxo broke down on the way to my first event, everything that could have gone wrong did. I figured it out and made my first few sales” muses Philip.

We began running Christmas pop up shops in Putney, The Exchange, selling socks there for 7 Christmases. Morrows actually only signed the 5 year lease on their current Putney based shop right before lockdown.

“My customers are mainly women buying gifts for their partners or men who don’t normally enjoy shopping coming in to replenish when they clear out their sock drawer. Because of the pandemic we wanted to capture new customers too therefore, just like my grandfather, we began stocking more cashmere stoles and children’s products which attracted new people.” says Philip.
