Campden Yurts a glamping site in Chipping Campden, Cotswolds

Campden Yurts is a family-run glamping site that offers customers a unique stay in a yurt.

The family are the Corners– Jane, Neill, Elly and Billy. They also have their extended family living nearby including Jane’s mum, a dog. Guinea Pigs and some free-range chickens.

Their home, Hillside Nursery, is a 5 acre smallholding on the outskirts of the historic market town of Chipping Campden. This is the most northerly point of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) known as The Cotswolds.

“We want guests to be able to relax as soon as they arrive. To come through the gates and feel their holiday has already begun. Couples, families and small groups are welcome. We invite you to have a unique holiday, make memories, enjoy the great outdoors and experience luxury yurt camping” says Jane.

Their story:

Campden Yurts offers the best of both worlds- close to nature but with all of comforts of home.

The accommodation is really flexible to suit your needs. Each has a luxurious king size bed and the two double futons can provide seating or further sleeping space. The woodburner provides warmth and we include a large basket of logs, kindling and lighters (more available as needed). You can brew a morning coffee or evening hot chocolate on the gas stove.

This little corner of the Cotswolds was once a rundown, overgrown plant nursery. In 1971, Jane’s parents bought the land and worked hard to create a self-sufficient way of life. They filled the smallholding with goats, ponies and chickens and grew their own fruit and vegetables. For over 40 years they lived this way, close to the earth and simple. It was certainly a labour of love, but they valued the simplicity of this way of living.

In 2008 Jane and Neill moved to Hillside Nursery full time. After a few years raising young children, they began to think about what they could do with the land. Out of those plans and dreams came the glamping site Campden Yurts, which has given Hillside Nursery a new purpose.

“Our aim is to be as sustainable as possible, consequently ‘to do very little harm’. Therefore, where possible, we use solar powered lighting such as in the yurts and indoor/outdoor shelter.” the Corners added.

To reduce use of plastic they provide glass water bottles, storage containers and metal water flasks.

Over 2020 the family has used social media to engage with a much more diverse audience to attract people from further afield, when they can travel. They even have followers now in the USA who love sheep and dogs therefore you will see lots of content on instagram catering to them

The Corners have also done prize draws to keep their customers happy and engaged over lockdown because even though they can’t come now, they might be able to visit soon.
