Papadeli a delicious delicatessen, cooking school and caterer in Bristol.

Papadeli is a deli, cooking school and events caterer based in Bristol. It is run by Catrin MacDonnell and her chef husband and wonderful team.

Papadeli started  as a deli with all the most delicious foods from around Europe and the UK as well as imaginative, nutritious take home dishes and homemade cakes made in a little kitchen at the back. Inspiration came from our time living in Italy, France and Spain – we wanted to replicate the best of all we saw back in Bristol.

Customers started asking if they could have the food they tasted in the deli at weddings and parties, so Papadeli catering was born – mostly delivered in the back of an old Peugeot 309.

Our cookery school invites people from all walks of life who simply love good food to come and learn how to make beautiful dishes from scratch.

My husband was a chef and now he has passed over the mantle to a chef and Charity who specialises in  pastries and innovative, unusual cakes. The delicatessen uses beautiful ingredients from locally made producers and we expanded to having catering business, top floor cookery school where people can learn how to cook incredible food.

At the cooking school we have everyone from husbands who have been sent by their wives to learn how to cook through to accomplished homecooks who simply want to learn how to level up.

Their story:

At the beginning of lockdown shut everything down and we closed everything. It was particularly tough having to close down the cooking school and the events catering because we had so much booked in.  “A platform called Good 60 in Bristol, which delivers food from Indies around Bristol, honestly helped keep us afloat” People can purchase anything from cheese to locally produced chocolates and they deliver them as one delivery.

“it was a massive shock like it was for everyone, all of our weddings, every business shut down, no orders came through and the events catering was the biggest part of our business”

Papadeli has continued to grow mainly focusing on the deli and the wonderful cakes and treats people can have there and Catrin has used social media primarily as a shop window giving customers some insights into what they could have when they come on down.

“Charity bakes the most interesting cakes even creating her version of a traditional tea cake which as soon as we posted it on instagram, sold out. We love just how much our customers are truly supporting independent businesses like ours”
