Not your average accountants. Meet Karen and Vicky of HB Accountants, specialist chartered accountants based in Hoddesdon, Broxbourne.
HB Accountants is celebrating its 100th year of helping businesses look after their finances and has helped generations of families grow their businesses through their personalised approach and community support initiatives. Over the various lock downs they have been working on helping their clients work together, giving free support and advice to businesses in need, taking on trainees and supporting charities in Hoddesdon where they can.
HB Accountants are chartered accountants and work with various clients from small independents on their local high street through to London Bar chains turning over millions. The firm looks after payroll, they train school leavers, they have specialisms in charitable accounts and two of their more interesting clients are bomb disposal experts and Luce Bee the Coconut Oil Queen.
Karen is one of the managing directors and Vicky looks after the social media for the firm. The key thing for the business is ensuring that they are always a community first business- adding value to their clients lives first and foremost. This has never been more prevalent than during the pandemic which hit many of their businesses hard.
“We try and do as much as we can for local charities and local businesses because we are fortunate, we live at work and we love it. It is our duty to give back” says Karen.
Their story:
During the pandemic the team at HB Accountants have seen a lot of change on their local high street. Whilst they may not be able to help every single independent business they have focused their efforts on supporting the businesses of Hoddesdon through social media.
Vicky feels that just because their business is serious doesn’t mean that their social media has to be so she posts funny quotes, ran a little 100th birthday quiz on instagram and has even launched a tik tok account to help lift peoples spirits.
The team run virtual networking sessions for businesses in the local area to meet online and collaborate and they also work with other local businesses to give away prizes on social media.
HB Accountants believes that the people and businesses of Hoddesdon must come together during the pandemic and post lock down to help one another and rebuild the high street one business at a time.
