Alastair Currill, a talented photographer in Bourton-on-the-Water, Cotswolds

Alastair Currill is a Bourton-on-the-Water based professional photographer and has been running his company Alastair Currill Photography for around 6 years in the Cotswolds.

Alastair specialises in weddings, family portraits, landscape/nature around Bourton and the wider Cotswolds beautiful scenery and he also runs photography training for budding enthusiasts.

During Lockdown 1 all of the weddings Alastair had booked were cancelled and due to restrictions he struggled to do the majority of the work he had planned for the rest of 2020.

Rather than resting on his laurels he set up Cotswold Jigsaw Puzzles as a new arm to his business- turning beautiful photography of landscape and animals from around the area into jigsaws for customers locally and even internationally helping keep the main business afloat until lockdown ends.

The other side to Alastair Currill Photography is his teaching arm of the business. Alastair runs Introduction to photography and landscape courses as well as his Camera Club which has been running for 4 years for local budding photography enthusiasts.

The one positive that teaching online has brought to his business is that he is attracting students from further afield who perhaps couldn’t have attended live classes or live too far away and now they can.

Their story:

Launching Cotswold Jigsaws has kept Alastair's business going during the pandemic which sadly has meant many people have lost theirs.

Cotswold Jigsaws are a variety of landscape and animals from around Bourton and the puzzles were even featured on BBC breakfast attracting an influx of orders.

Alastair realised that people would be at home, struggling with lockdown whether they were on their own, on furlough or having to homeschool kids. He wanted to bring a bit of the beauty of the area to people’s homes as well as giving people something to do at home therefore his photographs on puzzles seemed the ideal solution.

“I have a very loyal customer base, when people purchase one and I promote the next one or a different animal on social media i get orders immediately because people need something to keep their minds and kids occupied when locked up at home. The photographs give them a way of travelling and escaping without actually crossing their threshold” says Alastair.

I am seeing all sorts of new people want to pick up their camera and turn a passion into a hobby because of the pandemic and it is exciting to be able to help them no matter where they are
