Wardrobe a trendy ladies fashion retailer in Great Dunmow, Uttlesford
Nikki Anthony is the owner of Wardrobe, an independent boutique ladies fashion store on Great Dunmow High Street.
Having run the business for nearly 15 years Nikki and the team know their customers inside out and have still had a lot of support over the pandemic. They specialise in over 40’s ladies fashion from jeans and a stylish shirt through to modern ‘mother of the bride’ looks. They work primarily in the store and Nikki believes it is her excellent customer service, team and expertise that has helped them build a business which ladies travel to regionally.
Their story:
Wardrobe’s customers tend to be the female 40 years old and above market. Older mums to grandmothers in their 60s who are ‘ladies who lunch’ and want to look and feel trendy and smart when out for the day sampling the great restaurants and other shops in Great Dunmow.
“The brands I specialise in are cut for ‘proper women’, not like the high street skinny tapered look. The Individual brands we stock we have found across Europe and it is because they specialise in cuts that suit real women, like myself and my team. If you have lumps and bumps and want to look stylish then we have something for you. My team is all over 40, all shapes sizes and we know the brands we stock are right because we wear them ourselves” says Nikki.
Customers tend to come in on specific days based on relationships with certain members of staff which has been difficult during lockdown.. Loyal customers have really supported the business and they are still able to sell stylish day wear to their customers through their website.
“We are missing our customers from further afield as they would normally make a day of it with lunch, a couple of drinks and some shopping and therefore that has affected our trade as well as the wider area” Says Nikki.
Wardrobe has a big ‘London city worker’ clientele which has completely gone over lockdown purely as the ladies would come in for the day looking for outfits for a conference, evening out and purchase the whole outfit. The team really miss helping those ladies and would welcome them back, when they are able.
Nikki has been learning how to do her own social media, doing videos and her own posts so that she can communicate effectively with her customers. Talking through her products and rails and her daughter is a tough critic and vets all posts before they go on, just in case...
